Islamic Guidelines & Safety

Zawaaj 360 is not a fatwa service and does not replace consulting scholars or students of knowledge. However, every feature on this platform is built to uphold widely accepted Islamic guidelines for modest, halal interaction in the context of seeking marriage.

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them.”

— Qur'an 24:30

01

Opposite-Gender Interactions

All interactions on Zawaaj 360 are limited to opposite-gender, marriage-focused communication only. The platform enforces this at the search and messaging level. There is no casual chatting or “getting to know people for fun.”

02

Communication Etiquette

Conversations should be respectful, purposeful, and focused on assessing compatibility for marriage. Avoid compliments on appearance, affectionate or suggestive language, or any speech that would not be permissible in the presence of a mahram. Keep it dignified.

03

Wali (Guardian) Involvement

Islamic guidelines require a female to have her Wali (guardian) involved in the marriage process. On Zawaaj 360, we store Wali contact information privately and remind sisters to involve their guardian throughout their journey on the platform.

This is an Amanah (trust): the platform does not verify Wali involvement directly, but it is an Islamic obligation that each user is personally responsible for fulfilling. We strongly encourage it and provide reminders throughout the messaging experience.

04

Photo Modesty

Profile photos must adhere to modesty standards. All uploaded photos are reviewed by our moderation team before being made visible. Photos that do not meet Islamic modesty guidelines will be rejected. New uploads are blurred by default until approved.

05

No Sharing of Contact Details

Sharing phone numbers, email addresses, WhatsApp, or social media handles in profiles or early messages is not permitted. The platform uses automated pattern detection to identify and flag such content.

After a period of genuine, respectful communication and once both parties are comfortable (with the sister's Wali involved), users are free to take their conversations off-platform and proceed with the marriage process according to the Quran and Sunnah.

06

Prohibited Content & Behaviour

The following are strictly prohibited and will result in warnings, suspension, or permanent banning:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or abusive language
  • Sexually explicit or suggestive content
  • Fraudulent profiles or misrepresentation
  • Spam, solicitation, or commercial advertising
  • Content or conduct that sexualises or exploits minors, which is prohibited and is reported to the authorities. See our child safety standards.

How We Moderate

Zawaaj 360 uses a multi-layered approach to ensure that interactions on the platform remain within Islamic boundaries:

Automated Pattern Recognition

Messages are scanned in real-time using pattern recognition to detect profanity, inappropriate content, contact detail sharing, and other violations. Flagged messages are held for review before being delivered. In the future, AI-based contextual analysis will further strengthen this layer.

Human Moderators

Flagged messages and reported profiles are reviewed by human moderators. To maintain modesty and respect privacy, female moderators review messages from female users, and male moderators review messages from male users. Moderators can approve, reject, issue warnings, or escalate to suspension or banning based on the severity of the violation.

Community Reporting

Users can report profiles or conversations that violate Islamic guidelines. Reports are reviewed promptly by the moderation team, and appropriate action is taken based on the platform's policies and Islamic guidelines on gender interactions.

Child safety standards

These are the standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) for Zawaaj 360, the nikah-focused matrimonial service on the web and in the Zawaaj 360 apps for Android and iOS. Zawaaj 360 is powered by LaShareek.

Zero tolerance

Zawaaj 360 has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation, and for child sexual abuse material (CSAM), in any form. This includes:

  • Profiles, photos or messages that sexualise or exploit minors
  • Sharing, requesting or linking to child sexual abuse material
  • Any attempt to contact, groom or arrange to meet a minor

Adults only

Members must be 18 or over. Date of birth is checked at registration, and anyone younger is refused. Every profile is reviewed by a moderator before any other member can find it in search.

Moderation

Photos are reviewed by our moderation team before other members can see them, and messages are moderated. Content that breaks these standards is removed, and the member is reported as described below.

How to report

  • In the app: tap Report on any member's profile or in a conversation with them.
  • By email: write to our child safety contact at info@zawaaj360.com. Include the member's name or alias, where you saw the content, and when. Please do not attach or forward any image of a child: describe it instead.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police or emergency services first.

What we do

  • Remove the content and the account immediately
  • Preserve the evidence
  • Report child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities: the NCMEC CyberTipline, and in the UK the National Crime Agency's CEOP and the Internet Watch Foundation, or the local equivalent
  • Cooperate with law enforcement

Child safety point of contact

Our Child Safety Officer is responsible for these standards, for reports of child sexual abuse and exploitation, and for liaising with the authorities. Contact: info@zawaaj360.com.

Always consult knowledgeable scholars or students of knowledge for detailed rulings, and involve trusted family members in your process. May Allah bless your search and grant you a righteous spouse.
